How to Measure
Stand upright, barefoot against a wall and have someone measure from the floor to inline with the top of your head.
Why is Stance IQ Based on Height
Height is a better predictor of correct stance width than shoulder width or inseam length.

Backed by Tour Data
The Stance IQ training mat was developed with Tour data and academic research from some of the leading golf research universities.
How it works
For beginner & intermediate players, start with the recommended ball position & stance width, and then move on to developing your own preferred positions (we'll show you how).
Then use repetitive practice to familiarise yourself with these positions and improve your consistency.
For advanced golfers, add your own preferred positions first and then go on to refine based on ball flight and shot shape.
Challenge yourself with skill-based drills to improve your consistency and your adaptability.
How will improving my setup benefit my golf?
The perfect setup sounds great, but how much of a difference does it actually make and how will that translate into my golf score?
Reduce
Left-Right Dispersion
The boffins at the top golf research Universities tell us that improving the consistency of your ball position improves your left to right dispersion significantly.
Reduce
Front-Back Dispersion
They also tell us that your ball position has a large effect on the angle of attack you present at impact which can turn your 7 iron into a 6 iron if the ball's too far back, or into an 8 iron if it's too far forward.
Control
Low Point
Each club requires a different swing arc to perform best. From steep for wedges to shallow for woods. Your stance width affects this swing arc. Make sure you have it right for each club in your bag.
FEWER
Compenstations
Your swing tries to adjust to your stance and ball position. Reduce the amount of compensation required by improving the consistency of your setup.
Recommended Positions
For stance width and ball position for each different club type, because not everyone knows where to begin.
Writeable-Erasable
Surface designed for marking your own preferred setup positions, because everyone's swing is different.
Club Face Angle
Adjusting club face angle at setup is a great way to shape shots or compensate for a miss in the middle of a round. But how much is too much? Let us show you.
FAQs
How does the Stance IQ work?
The Stance IQ is designed to be used on the range or during your warmup before a round.
Start off by working through our guides to adding your own preferred ball positions and stance widths.
Then move on to our drills designed to familiarise yourself with your own positions, so that you can transfer that consistent setup to the course (we'll show you how).
Challenge yourself with skill-based drills designed to add more resilience to your game.
Lastly, for those ready to take it on, learn how small tweaks to your ball position can lead to different ball trajectories and shot shapes.
Once you've mastered your setup, use the Stance IQ as your reference for a good setup before a range session or heading out on the course.
Will the Stance IQ fix my swing?
The short answer is no. While not specifically designed to address swing changes, having a more consistent golf setup will help to eliminate variables that can lead to inconsistencies in the swing.
Find out how much of your inconsistencies are coming from your setup, and then you'll know how to fix your swing.
How will the Stance IQ training tool help my golf?
We're not going to stand here and pretend like this is going to solve all your problems. Golf is one of the most complicated movements in sports. This tool addresses just one of the many aspects that affect your golf performance - the setup.
If you can get your setup dialled, then it eliminates some of the variables that affect your swing, ball contact and turf interaction.
Should I use it for every range session?
When starting out, you might use it to learn your setup for the first 10-15 minutes of a range session.
Then you might use it occasionally for specific drills when working on your strike, ground contact or changing ball flight.
Finally it might become integral to your warmup before key rounds, just to ensure you're setting the right foundation for the day.
Do I need to align square to the mat?
No, you don't need to align square to the mat. You can choose whether to align the mat to your feet, or to the target.
Please note that if you align the mat to your feet, then the marked ball positions may not be as relevant to you (and vice versa). But you can still add your own preferred setup positions that work best for you.
How do avoid becoming reliant on it for setup?
We've designed a set of drills specifically for testing your ability to repeat the setup blindly, so that you know when you're ready to take your setup to the course.
How did you develop the setup measurements?
Our stance width and ball positions were derived from a mathematical model, based on state of the art research from the leading golf research Universities, as well as data from the USGA and other Pro Tour organisations.
We developed a height-based model, as our research suggested that height was a better indicator for stance width than shoulder width, which has more variation.
How is this different from alignment sticks?
Pros use alignment sticks religiously in their warm up sessions.
The Stance IQ takes alignment one step further, by adding the ability to mark your foot positions and ball positions.
Why is there a different size for golfers of different heights?
There is no one-size-fits-all stance width for golfers of different heights. The stance width of someone who's 6'4 will be wildly different from someone who's 5'8.
Same goes for ball position.
We've developed a range of sizes to suit golfers of different heights, ensuring that the stance widths and ball positions are accurate across the height range on each mat.
I'm a beginner golfer. How will this improve my golf?
Firstly, it will simply draw attention to the fact that there are even different setups for different clubs.
Then it will give you a structured way to learn these setup positions, so you can take them onto the golf course and impress your mates with how quickly you're picking up the game.
I'm an intermediate golfer. How will this improve my golf?
As an intermediate golfer, you're learning what you don't know and that might be how big an impact ball position actually has on your accuracy, and how much stance width affects the quality of your strike.
Work through the structured drills to get your setup dialled and you'll see your shot dispersion tighten even more.
I'm an advanced golfer. How will this benefit my golf?
As an advanced golfer, you're refining what you already know and possibly learning a couple of things along the way.
Use the Stance IQ for calibrating your setup at certain points of the season or before important rounds. You can also learn the effect that small tweaks to setup can have on your ball flight.
Where is the product made?
The Stance IQ mat is manufactured in New Zealand, the golf-mad country which is second only to Scotland with the highest number of golf courses per capita in the world.
What warranty does the Stance IQ mat have?
The Stance IQ mat comes with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty.
Note: Do not leave the mat outside for extended periods of time as the suns UV will gradually fade the graphics and this is not covered by the warranty.
